I am just checking up on my Amazon account as I propose to get the Rough Guide to the Ionian Islands and I checked out my recommendations. The rest of this blog talks about weighting data points by age.

So my son has been ordering music recently and there’s a bunch of CDs it recommends that I buy. Next, there are  about 10 books on the Russian Revolution and Soviet history, which we bought while he was doing his “A” levels. We’ve done that now, so I hope they “age” these purchases’ weight in the recommendation algorithm. I am not likely to buy any more books about this for a while and they get in the way.

I suppose their problem is I have long term interests which I want them to recommend stuff about, but also I have short term interests, and don’t want to say “not interested” ever, merely not now.
