Using userstyles.org

Using userstyles.org

This page was originally written in 2010, and may have been posted to the snipsnap bliki. When I rescued it, I copied it to the blog and then decided it would be better on the wiki. I made a major rewrite in 2021 as I considered writing alternate style sheets for some old sites that I enjoy using. Here as ever are my notes on stylish/user styles. Read More

Google Gadgets

Notes on integrating Google Search and Google Friend Connect to my site. This includes some google code that never worked on snipsnap, and doesn’t work here. 28 June 2013

Google Search

Can I make a google search of the site?

I experimented with the snipsnap field macro and tried to make http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=$query+site%3Adavelevy.info, where $query is the results of the text box, and the URL is the search procedure but this didn’t render or work. This solution may need a new search macro which would be fun. If I need to write a macro, see http://snipsnap.org/comments/Macro+Tutorial. It would only be one word without a macro. Annoyingly I could write the procedure in Python.

However a bit of Googling found this? http://www.google.com/cse/?v

Experiment

Can I leave the config files on davelevy.info? Looks like not!

I have registered http://davelevy.info as a GFC site in implemented the signin, members and comments on http://davelevy.info/friends. I have seen prettier but I have time to work on it.

I have tried to see if the scripts will leverage the config files hosted on davelevy.info. It seems not. This might be a bit of a problem because of the amount of redirection involved. NB All references to snipsnap, through the host web server are redirected from port 80 to another port. Where do I install the config files? The webserver root, or the jetty server root or in the snipsnap trees. (Some files are rendered directly, such as the css files, so it may be possible to get jetty to serve it, but probably not necessary. The server root should work.).

I removed the web site static files, and display pages recently 28 June 2013

The google code is google.friendconnect.container.setParentUrl(‘/’ /* location of rpc_relay.html and canvas.html */); where does it constrain itself to the domain.

Perils of Branwen (Downloads)

Perils of Branwen (Downloads)

This is the downloads page. This page was last updated, prior to being copied over to wiki.daveley.info on 11 Nov 2009, I was sent the Russian Translation late in 2010, and posted it to davelevy.info in June 2012. I placed the Russian Translation on this page in June 2013, when I copied the page to this site. This version 3 i.e. snipsnap page was created on 30th December 2007 when I retired content relating to previous versions and also to any development plans. Read More

NWN Playing a Druid

I am taking a Druid through Shadows of Udrentide. There’s a couple of class specific quests which are quite nice. I have reached the Asabi Camp as a Druid/Barbarian/Shifter (7,1,1) and am having some difficulty. I notice that Ashtara has very few Druid’s scrolls and not that many heals or even cure critical. Actually he has them, its just I have no Gold and they’re expensive. In this page, I discuss the difficulty I find with the Druid, the weakness of the companion &the importance of the starting WIS. This page points at a number of URLs that may no longer be there. Read More

Bittorrent

Bittorrent

I have looked at Bittorrent on and off over the years. It is now controversial as it is the preferred filesharing solution of choice for copyright pirates but it has significant other uses and benefits. It was probably designed to  cope with site or server bandwidth scarcity in a client server transaction. I first created this page in May 2009 as a result of and to aid my experimentation with bittorrent clients. I had another 10 years later and significantly updated the page. As ever, see below/overleaf for my notes. Read More

Small screen HTML runes

Optimising HTML for small screens

I have been interested in optimising HTML for small screens and/or using CSS as the vehicle. This has been driven by my personal publication properties and started at Sun with the then Sun Blog. I marked it as deprecated in 2020. Read More

Installing BG2 Mods using NSIS

I wanted to offer a seamless install experience for my Perils of Branwen (Mod), so I asked Jason Compton’s help from PPG to configure the Nullsoft Scriptable Install System. It hangs out here at sourceforge. Read More

Add This

Add This

I created this page to test scripts published by http://addthis.com. It was originally created on the Qube. See below for early experiments for what I wrote at the time, all probably useless now. I have installed their wordpress widget and so even lower down on this page, after the article , are add this’s sharing buttons. I suppressed the plugin on my blogs some time ago, but Addthis exposed itself again when I implemented the Cronus theme in 2021.  …. Read More

Ninafer, a BG1 mod

Ninafer, a BG1 mod

The Ninafer mod for BG1 was hosted at the “Chosen of Mystra”. I found that her installation files seem to have disappeared from the internet. I have uploaded my disk copy to this page. The best I can offer is this zip file, called Nina.zip, it contains a setup.exe the .tp2 file and the supporting folder. I talk a bit about her, and document my mirrors; there are two pictures, one of which can be used with the mod.  Read More
