This is not going to be pretty, the expectation is that the \u201cID &amp; Democracy\u201d will come third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also found a report on the S&amp;D\/PES manifesto construction and on the Green\u2019s manifesto, Euractiv also report on Macron and the Liberals who seem more factional than I would expect, and as others have observed, less relevant. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pes.eu\/pes\/pes-election-congress-to-take-place-in-rome\/\">PES election congress to take place in Rome<\/a> from the PES<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Euractiv <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/news\/eu-greens-manifesto-a-social-green-deal-and-embrace-of-nato\/\">reports <\/a>on the Greens&#8217; manifesto, and on the Liberals, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/elections\/news\/could-macrons-conservative-turn-drag-eu-elections-into-a-national-only-campaign\/\">Could Macrons conservative turn drag eu elections into a national only campaign<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volt\u2019s manifesto was posted, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240419231221\/https:\/\/assets.volteuropa.org\/2023-11\/Volt_%20EUR%20Electoral%20Moonshot%20Program_v5%20Final.pdf\">https:\/\/assets.volteuropa.org\/2023-11\/Volt_%20EUR%20Electoral%20Moonshot%20Program_v5%20Final.pdf<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And here is the <a href=\"https:\/\/internal.diem25.org\/en\/vote\/459\/public\">Diem 25 Manifesto<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I also found this which <a href=\"https:\/\/europeelects.eu\/calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">catalogues the national elections taking place this year<\/a>, the results of which will impact the Commission nominations and Council representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-europe-elects wp-block-embed-europe-elects\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"8my0OttMN1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/europeelects.eu\/calendar\/\">Europe Elects: Calendar<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Europe Elects: Calendar&#8221; &#8212; Europe Elects\" src=\"https:\/\/europeelects.eu\/calendar\/embed\/#?secret=c1RhjKqxZF#?secret=8my0OttMN1\" data-secret=\"8my0OttMN1\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On democracy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>CB pointed us at Patberg\u2019s article, \u201cFarewell to constituent power? The Conference on the Future of Europe, citizens\u2019 assemblies and the democratic minimum.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/global-constitutionalism\/article\/farewell-to-constituent-power-the-conference-on-the-future-of-europe-citizens-assemblies-and-the-democratic-minimum\/BFE510DBEC31C4A7274AE3F47B825069\">https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/global-constitutionalism\/article\/farewell-to-constituent-power-the-conference-on-the-future-of-europe-citizens-assemblies-and-the-democratic-minimum\/BFE510DBEC31C4A7274AE3F47B825069<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The abstract includes the sentence, \u201cNevertheless, the idea should be viewed with caution, as permanent citizens\u2019 assemblies could just as well become a democratic fig-leaf allowing EU institutions to reject calls for fundamental reforms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I say, that its real danger is that it could just become another bureaucracy with its members chosen by lot, not election. It\u2019d why argue that turnover\/task &amp; finish are important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fake News and foreign interference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The general affairs council next week, will discuss <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_23_6453\">the defence of democracy package<\/a>. This ought to be relevant to CTOE but as is the case within the UK the politicians are solving their own problems and the package consists of a series of measures to attempt to constrain fake news and of course their &nbsp;concern is that lawyers have too much influence in elections.
