We looked at the potential for conflict with the GDPR&#8217;s right of &#8220;freedom from profiling&#8221;. U.S. business and probably its government do not want strong regulation of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/artificial-intelligence\/europe-looks-embrace-ai-paris-summits-2nd-day-while-global-consensus-unclear-2025-02-11\">https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/artificial-intelligence\/europe-looks-embrace-ai-paris-summits-2nd-day-while-global-consensus-unclear-2025-02-11<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The copyright disputes have their aspects of schadenfreude,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2025\/feb\/11\/uk-copyright-law-consultation-fixed-favour-ai-firms-peer-says\">https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2025\/feb\/11\/uk-copyright-law-consultation-fixed-favour-ai-firms-peer-says<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/openai-deepseek-permission-ai-stealing\">https:\/\/futurism.com\/openai-deepseek-permission-ai-stealing<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Democratic Oversight of the models, reflects the profit\/not for profit argument in the US and the need for the four freedoms and thus open source, noting that the Chinese alternative to OpenAI, Deepseek, is open source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-techhq wp-block-embed-techhq\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"VIW8OqJVOS\"><a href=\"https:\/\/techhq.com\/2025\/02\/deepseeks-open-source-revolution-a-game-changer-for-ai-development\/\">DeepSeek&#8217;s open-source revolution: A game-changer for AI development?<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;DeepSeek&#8217;s open-source revolution: A game-changer for AI development?&#8221; &#8212; TechHQ\" src=\"https:\/\/techhq.com\/2025\/02\/deepseeks-open-source-revolution-a-game-changer-for-ai-development\/embed\/#?secret=VWSpeaNrVL#?secret=VIW8OqJVOS\" data-secret=\"VIW8OqJVOS\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We agreed to use these insights in our open letter the special committee on democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wrote, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Apart from the issue of rules sharding and ownership, and the right to \u201cfreedom from profiling\u201d, I&#8217;m interested in the way Google are using AI to summarise their findings. Where it occurs, I think it&#8217;s quite useful, particularly since they started to add citations, but does it undermine the principle of popularity. Google have also weakened this competitive advantage by allowing people to buy places in their search replies.
