The rules it seems are optional, and I am not sure I am ready for this, as I need to learn to play my classes better than I do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Links<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/media.wizards.com\/2018\/dnd\/downloads\/UA_Sidekicks.pdf\">Sidekicks from Unearthed Arcana<\/a>, by WOTC, a .pdf, they have thethe same level as the party, levels up with the party and can be a warrior, spell caster or expert. The start from a CR 1\/2 monster stat block. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dnd5e.wikidot.com\/sidekicks\">Sidekicks<\/a> from Wikidot, very simple to understand<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldanvil.com\/block\/1126294\">commentary on warrior sidekicks<\/a>, bit more detail on the special abilities. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aabicus.com\/2023\/05\/11\/dd-5e-a-guide-to-sidekicks\/\">5e, a guide to sidekicks<\/a>, at Abicus Archives, a commentary but ends with some ideas, emphasises the thug, see below and hints at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/monsters\/5195164-pixie\">PIxie<\/a>. The author recommends not using highly magical creatures as <em>spellcaster<\/em> sidekicks because the sidekick category overwrites the magic using ability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/posts\/1052-3-sidekicks-to-recruit-to-your-ragtag-party-of#whataresidekicks\">3 sidekicks to recruit to your ragtag party<\/a> at DnD beyond, suggests a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/monsters\/313041-locathah\">Locathah<\/a>, a Pixie, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/monsters\/1873885-skrappis-warrior-sidekick\">Kobold<\/a>. The latter interestingly has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/monsters\/17277-kobold-inventor\">weapon invention<\/a> &amp; pack tactics from the Kobold inventor and it is suggested one runs him as a warrior.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They start from a monster manual stat block, I have found, the <a href=\"https:\/\/roll20.net\/compendium\/dnd5e\/Thug#content\">thug<\/a>, maybe the best, it has pack tactics although I am not clear if when using the stat block, special abilities apply, or a <a href=\"https:\/\/roll20.net\/compendium\/dnd5e\/Monsters:Drow\/#h-Drow\">drow<\/a>, although sunlight sensitivity might be a problem, and its stats are weaker than the thug or a <a href=\"https:\/\/roll20.net\/compendium\/dnd5e\/Monsters:Scout\/#h-Scout\">scout<\/a> which maybe better as an expert. Or <a href=\"https:\/\/roll20.net\/compendium\/dnd5e\/Lizardfolk#content\">Lizardfolk<\/a>, thick but strong. Or <a href=\"https:\/\/roll20.net\/compendium\/dnd5e\/Monsters:Hobgoblin%20Warrior\/#h-Hobgoblin%20Warrior\">Hobgoblin, at Roll20<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/monsters\/16925-hobgoblin?srsltid=AfmBOoo-I08HWLSfEdPAKsuoBhED4ZgYc4aAr4f566Vf2XLck1tw7uDu\">at DnD Beyond<\/a> another with Packtactics and not unacceptable lore in 5e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Character Sheets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1o-g5N13v4zniK77LjO5VPtyYbqVmXVpd\/view\">Sidekicks, a PDF<\/a> by hornbook1776 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/DnD\/comments\/afy5k7\/oc_sidekick_specific_character_sheets\/\">at reddit<\/a>, not yet tried it with adobe, and so don&#8217;t know how easy this is to use as a doc. This has the advantage that it can be on a google drive and accessed at the table top. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WOTC&#8217;s take<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several other interpretations of sidekicks\/hirelings &amp; henchmen. I found or was pointed at these,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/monsters\/17021-spy\">A spy as a monster<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/sources\/dnd\/dmg-2014\/creating-nonplayer-characters#DesigningNPCs\">Designing NPCs<\/a> &amp; also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dndbeyond.com\/sources\/dnd\/dmg-2014\/creating-nonplayer-characters#Hirelings\">Hirelings<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>All three at DnD Beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The image is taken from GW2, but not made by me.
