The EU is considering these issues, in defining an EU stack, which does include networks, storage, and systems (and thus presumably CPUs and ASICS). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ORG are now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openrightsgroup.org\/press-releases\/cybersecurity-bill-org-calls-on-mps-to-reduce-uk-reliance-on-us-tech-companies\/\">campaigning <\/a>on the grounds that US owned software can be denied to its foreign users. Enrique Dans<\/em><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/edans.bsky.social\">on bluesky<\/a> or on <a href=\"https:\/\/edans.medium.com\/\">Medium<\/a>. He concludes, &#8220;AI sovereignty is neither a technological whim nor an exercise in national pride: it is a reminder that if you don\u2019t control the models that speak for you, you don\u2019t control the future you will have to live in.&#8221; Much of his emphasis is on language and culture, just as mine is on accuracy within a regulatory context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techpolicy.press\/what-does-a-sovereign-cloud-really-mean\/\">comment <\/a>from Canada, by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techpolicy.press\/author\/emily-osborne\">Emily Osborne<\/a>, who says, &#8220;If Canada seeks genuine control over the physical and digital infrastructure that stores and transports information of its public, it cannot rely on US hyperscalers to provide it. These companies fall under US jurisdiction and, therefore, are subject to the 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/115th-congress\/house-bill\/4943\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLOUD Act<\/a>, which enables US authorities to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiley.law\/alert-The-CLOUD-Act-Data-Access-Agreement-10-Things-That-US-Telecommunications-Companies-Need-to-Know-Now\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">access <\/a>data they hold, even if that data is stored abroad.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See also <a href=\"https:\/\/davelevy.info\/wiki\/opensource-cloud-oss\/\">https:\/\/davelevy.info\/wiki\/opensource-cloud-oss\/<\/a> where I discuss the opensource\/european alternatives to the US datenkraken and among other things, say, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I say, that, it&#8217;s also fortunate for the UK, while Rachel Reeves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicfinance.co.uk\/news\/2024\/08\/treasury-cancels-ps1bn-ai-investment\">cancelled Sunak\u2019s supercomputing projects<\/a>, that the previous Tory government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/uk-joins-european-super-computing-scheme-as-world-class-british-researchers-now-able-to-bid-for-funding\">agreed to rejoin the EU\u2019s supercomputing consortium<\/a>.
