This note looks at what I consider to be the critical selection criteria and make some notes about <a href=\"https:\/\/ghost.org\/\">ghost<\/a> and flat file CMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On Ghost<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/w3techs.com\/technologies\/comparison\/cm-ghost,cm-wordpress\">not very popular<\/a>. This means skills will be hard to find.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It mandates the use of MySQL; at times I have sought to disintermediate my wordpress databases, which led me to look at flat-file CMSs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ghost.org\/pricing\/\">hosting offering<\/a> is in USD and presumably located in FISA land. GDPR &amp; Online Safety Act compliance might be hard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WP has a Ghost exporter, otherwise see <a href=\"https:\/\/share.google\/aimode\/4m6bAGgpgzhExHecV\">this<\/a> on google.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flat-file CMSs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cContent Management Systems (CMS) that use only the filesystem are called <strong>flat-file CMS<\/strong>. Instead of relying on a database like MySQL, they store your blog posts as plain text (e.g., Markdown or text files) in folders, making them incredibly fast, secure, and easy to back up. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.datocms.com\/blog\/headless-cms-vs-flat-file-cms-main-differences\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/strapi.io\/blog\/flat-file-cms-guide-when-to-choose-file-based-systems\">2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ionos.co.uk\/digitalguide\/hosting\/cms\/flat-file-cms-the-alternative-to-wordpress-etc\/\">3<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most popular options include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/getgrav.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grav<\/a>:<\/strong> A highly flexible and modern flat-file CMS built for developers and content creators. It features an excellent dashboard and handles Markdown natively. [<a href=\"https:\/\/getgrav.org\/\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iedigital.co.uk\/blog\/five-best-flat-file-cms-solutions\">2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icdsoft.com\/blog\/eight-alternatives-to-wordpress\/\">3<\/a>]<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/getkirby.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kirby<\/a>:<\/strong> A top choice for highly customized websites and blogs. It is incredibly lightweight, file-based, and gives developers complete control over the frontend. [<a href=\"https:\/\/typemill.net\/knowledge-hub\/flat-file-cms\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/strapi.io\/blog\/flat-file-cms-guide-when-to-choose-file-based-systems\">2<\/a>]<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.htmly.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HTMLy<\/a>:<\/strong> Designed specifically for lightweight blogging. It requires minimal server specifications and natively supports tags, categories, and scheduled posts. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.htmly.com\/\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/typemill.net\/knowledge-hub\/flat-file-cms\">2<\/a>]<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wondercms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WonderCMS<\/a>:<\/strong> The ultimate minimalist CMS, consisting of just five files and requiring no database or complex configuration.
