In the noughties I used the Rough Guide but in Sept 2022, I decided to return in 2022 and used Expedia. Maybe <em>trainline<\/em> can do better. However if time is short one has to fly and return legs prices are very cheap. In Sept 2022, I used Expedia to book tickets with WizzAir, LGW &#8211; VIE Return. There were sadly no LCY flights on the days I wanted.<\/p>\n<p>Wizzair have <a href=\"https:\/\/wizzair.com\/en-gb\/information-and-services\/booking-information\/check-in-and-boarding\">a check in site<\/a> which points at their app, the site does not seem to work well with Firefox; best use the app. Gatwick recommend arriving two hours before take-off while VIE has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viennaairport.com\/en\/passengers\/departing_passenger\">a traveller advice site<\/a>,\u00a0 This page from welcome pickups is dated Sep 2019, &#8220;how to get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welcomepickups.com\/vienna\/airport-transfer-to-city\/\">from the Airport to the City<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<h3>Getting about<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/transport\/public\/\">https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/transport\/public\/<\/a>, there&#8217;s a 72 hour pass it seems!<\/li>\n<li>It seems that the OBB and Vienna Transit have different tickets, I bought my self a day pass to travel round the ring, the No 1 tram no longer does this, like the circle it&#8217;s been made a comma. Wien Mitte to the Airport, one way, by OBB = 4.30 EUR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Hotels<\/h3>\n<p>Twenties<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ruby-hotels.com\/en\/hotels-destinations\/vienna\/ruby-lissi\">Ruby Lissi<\/a>\u00a0found at expedia.com, just inside the ring. Looks nice. I found one or two others ata round \u00a3100+ per night in August. Does Vienna close down in August still?<\/li>\n<li>I am going to the <a href=\"https:\/\/grandferdinand.com\/en\/\">Grand Ferdinand<\/a> 5*&#8217;s, hope I enjoy it. Three restaurants and a pool, a roof top lounge but not the same view as the start of the 3rd Man. Looks like the fine dining on the Wednesday and the Rooftop Bar after the concert.<\/li>\n<li>While poking around the internet, I found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pertschy.com\/\">https:\/\/www.pertschy.com\/<\/a>\u00a0inside the Ring, old world buildings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"max-width: 640px; height: 400px\" class=\"fshow-wrapper\">\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/davelevy.info\/wiki\/fshow_orbit_5ff6ee733d967?photosetid=72177720302163689&user_id=38126735%40N00&username=photomatt&gallery_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fphotomatt%2Fsets%2F72177720302163689%2F\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 400px\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" border=\"0\">\n<\/iframe>\n<noscript>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/s\/aHBqjA7qmR\" target=\"_blank\">Click to View<\/a><\/noscript>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Noughties<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kvu.at\/en\/\">Konig von Ungarn<\/a> is well reviewed <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160730220210\/https:\/\/www.virtualtourist.com\/hotels\/Europe\/Austria\/Bundesland_Wien\/Vienna-320332\/Hotels_and_Accommodations-Vienna-Hotel_Konig_Von_Ungarn-BR-1.html\">here&#8230;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160331165534\/http:\/\/www.abnet.at\/hotel\/vienna\/konig\/\">here&#8230;<\/a>, which makes it seem very attractive. It is <b>very<\/b> centrally located. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20060621192614\/http:\/\/www.abnet.at:80\/hotel\/vienna\/konig\/images\/map.jpg\">here&#8230;<\/a>.) (T) +431 515 84-0. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">We actually stayed here in 2006<\/span>, its <b>excellent<\/b>, as its restaurant, the people were great and we got a two room suite, for the family which is very hard to find in capital cities. It was ***** at the time.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160404111244\/http:\/\/www.pertschy.com:80\/pension2_e.html\">Pension Aviano<\/a>, off Kartnerstrasse, part of a chain, building looks good. Restaurant? &#8211; The <a href=\"https:\/\/mailberger-hof.tophotelsvienna.com\/en\/\">Hotel Mailbergerhof<\/a> is also very well located but likely to be more expensive than the Konig von Ungarn. It&#8217;s described in the guide as the <b>most<\/b> baroque hotel in Vienna. I&#8217;ve been quoted under 200 Euros\/room <i>Early Summer 2006<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacher.com\/en\/hotel-sacher-wien\/\">Hotel Sacher<\/a> is one of the big three luxurious imperial hotels. Pretty expensive, probably more than I want to pay for two rooms. <em>2009<\/em><\/li>\n<li>The Radisson SAS Palais looks quite good since its located in what were once two palaces. Its on Ringstrasse, so we should check it out, maybe drinkies in the lounge.
