Trump pulled out, but the remaining countries completed the treaty, now renamed,&nbsp;the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership with a modified a more limited ISDS and intellectual property clauses. The British Govt. have applied to join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativehome.com\/thecolumnists\/2021\/02\/daniel-hannan-joining-the-pacific-bloc-marks-the-rebirth-of-global-britain.html\">to the applause of Lord Hannan<\/a>, an ex MEP and so I think we need to understand the ISDS &amp; IPR clauses, and the direction of travel. If the US decide to rejoin, they will probably seek to &#8216;improve&#8217; the ISDS and IPR chapters. We should note it has a Commission. Here as ever are my notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Spring of 2023, the Tory Government began to herald the signing of this agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iod.com\/news\/global-business\/flying-the-flag-for-global-britain-how-valuable-is-cptpp-for-the-uk-really\/\">How valuable is the CPTPP for the UK reakky?<\/a> , from the IOD, includes the statement, &#8220;We already have bilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with seven of the eleven countries, and digital economy agreements with Singapore and Japan.&#8221; This is an on the one hand, and on the other article and references several government sites.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e667e5cf-cea7-4a1a-a4b1-f009a93190f9\">UK hopes to conclude deal with Pacific trade bloc this year<\/a> at the FT; they didn&#8217;t!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/conservativehome.com\/2022\/11\/24\/greg-hands-why-joining-cptpp-is-the-right-choice-for-britain-and-make-it-impossible-for-labour-to-smuggle-us-into-an-eu-customs-union\/\">Why joining CPTPP is the right choice \u2013 and would make it impossible for Labour to smuggle us into an EU customs union<\/a>, by Greg Hands MP, Minister for Trade at Conservative Home.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/eb8b75aa-2608-4d20-a556-08b6b19af8aa\">UK poised to remove import tariffs on Malaysian palm oil<\/a>, an example of the compromises we will have to make, a quote from Alex Wijeratna, senior director at deforestation campaign group Mighty Earth, who said: \u201cThe removal of tariffs on palm oil products from Malaysia without any environmental safeguards makes it very hard for the UK to call itself a climate leader committed to tackling deforestation and protecting precious habitats of endangered species.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evidence <a href=\"https:\/\/committees.parliament.uk\/writtenevidence\/110788\/html\/\">presented to the UK Parliament on ISDS<\/a> by the Business and Human Resource Centre.
