This is not easy with consumer technology i.e. laptops, neither the mic. nor the camera&#8217;s are likely to be good enough. One will thus be reliant on the venue&#8217;s AV facilities. Here are my notes on the tech and rooms in London. This was update in Nov 2022, after a visit to Birkbeck college. We successfully made a configuration work. This is documented in\u00a0 one of the comments. For some reason, I originally made this private, possibly because I was linking to solution providers that I hadn&#8217;t checked out. This might be helpful to someone other than me and so I have changed the visibility. Here my notes as they stand. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/k72l06SN7Xg\">video<\/a> is very popular but very irritating.<\/p>\n<p>For meetings beyond that of a board room, the meeting room will need a podium or roving cameras and the ability of the platform to be seen. It will need a large monitor or beamer to allow the room to see the virtual audience.<\/p>\n<p>Some tech vendors are looking at how to integrate a roving camera or mic into the laptop\/pc.<\/p>\n<p>Bottom line you need<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>strong speakers i.e. the device not people, to broadcast to the room.<\/li>\n<li>multiple cameras<\/li>\n<li>multiple Mics in the room (this is very hard with zoom)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>All these devices need to be better than those integrated into a laptop.<\/p>\n<p>I found this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cvent.com\/uk\/blog\/hospitality\/hybrid-events\">advert<\/a>, from Cevent, which looks at the planning issues. I have copied their notes on technology into the modal below. (Actually the modal&#8217;s CSS broke when I implemented the tempo theme. Do you need more than two angles? In this case, you need multiple cameras. You\u2019ll also need a switcher and someone to select the camera angles to show.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>You\u2019ll need a camera that supports all screen sizes.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Does the planner want HD and will the stream support it?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>High-quality microphones<\/h5>\n<p><em>High-quality microphones are essential. Wireless lavalier microphones are a great option as they appear better on camera and prevents ambient noise.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When mics are accidentally left on, this can create a poor audio experience for a hybrid audience. Consider having an audio operator who shuts mics on and off. I wondered if it was possible to connect the room camera to the vroom, without a laptop?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/resources.owllabs.com\/blog\/zoom-room\">https:\/\/resources.owllabs.com\/blog\/zoom-room<\/a>, from owl labs looks like Zoom&#8217;s answer albeit published by a camera vendor.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcameraworld.com\/buying-guides\/best-conference-webcam\">https:\/\/www.digitalcameraworld.com\/buying-guides\/best-conference-webcam<\/a><\/li>\n<li>or if one&#8217;s feeling cheap, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expertreviews.co.uk\/webcams\/1415076\/best-budget-webcam\">https:\/\/www.expertreviews.co.uk\/webcams\/1415076\/best-budget-webcam<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/pimylifeup.com\/raspberry-pi-zoom\/\">Pi<\/a> would reduce the form factor of the connecting Laptop<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Venues<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.friendshouse.co.uk\/meeting-rooms\/elizabeth-fry-suite\/\">https:\/\/www.friendshouse.co.uk\/meeting-rooms\/elizabeth-fry-suite\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbury.org.uk\/roomevent-booking\/\">https:\/\/www.bloomsbury.org.uk\/roomevent-booking\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conwayhall.org.uk\/venue-hire\/\">Conway Hall<\/a>, Red Lion Sq.,<\/li>\n<li>Rooms <a href=\"https:\/\/coinstreet.org\/space-and-venue-hire\/south-bank-rooms\">at Coin St. Community Centre<\/a>, sensible rooms, but seem to be a\/c not windowed.<\/li>\n<li>St Brides Foundation, good rooms, currently coming out of COVID restrictions, \u00a3490 for 4 hours, laptop &amp; projector would be extra, sound system is poor i.e. speakers only and no cameras.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deptfordlounge.org.uk\/hire-us\">http:\/\/deptfordlounge.org.uk\/hire-us<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Perhaps I should try Regus, to see if they have a big enough room.
