My Rough Guide is so old that it needs replacing. This article was written mainly in the noughties and was updated during our visit to Valencia in 2009; we travelled through Barcelona to get their. Otherwise, Hotels, Airport and Things to Do, or have done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rough Guide<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roughguides.com\/spain\/barcelona\/\">Rough Guide to Barcelona<\/a>, sadly they have a shit view on allowing the reuse of web content and so what I want to link to isn&#8217;t there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Currency<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Spain is in the <b>Euro (EUR)<\/b> zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hotels<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On my return in 2024, I used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.co.uk\/\">Expedia <\/a>to find a hotel which can be filtered by price, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.co.uk\/Hotels-g187497-Barcelona_Catalonia-Hotels.html\">trip advisor also has a list<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Public Transport<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They have an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.holabarcelona.com\/tickets\/hola-bcn-barcelona-travel-card?utm_source=TMB&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=publi_hbtc_spring&amp;utm_content=en\">all inclusive travel card<\/a> &#8230; can one buy in advance?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting there<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There <a href=\"https:\/\/www.londoncityairport.com\/destinations-Barcelona\/flying-to-barcelona\">are it seems flights<\/a> to and from LCY, by BA. The low fare carriers operate out of Gatwick and Luton, a return for about \u00a370, when I looked although there are no tickets released for the summer of 2024 yet. <em>Aug 2023<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Airport and things<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The train from the airport arrives in Barcelona at Barcelona Sants station. The airport terminus as at T2.There are now two terminal buildings at Barcelona, named 1 &amp; 2. There is a bus between the two terminals and also between Terminal 1 and the train station. <em>2009<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting about<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmb.cat\/en\/home\">a public transport authority (TMB)<\/a>, which runs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmb.cat\/en\/barcelona-transport\/map\/metro\">the metro<\/a> and buses. They have an app, which is pointed to by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmb.cat\/en\/barcelona-fares-metro-bus\">their tickets and fares page<\/a>. One can also buy online via the web. Five day card costs \u20ac35, \u20ac7 per day. There is a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmb.cat\/documents\/20182\/45206\/Pl%C3%A0nol+xarxa+de+Metro_febrer+2016.pdf\/f5578f40-5a66-46ba-907c-cf31e0d368c0\"> full route map (.pdf)<\/a>  at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.movingtobarcelona.com\/barcelona-maps\/\">https:\/\/www.movingtobarcelona.com\/barcelona-maps\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Things to Do<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <i>Rough Guide&#8217;s<\/i> top 20 include, Bars in the Barri Gotic and Old Town, the Montjuc, Parc de la Ciutadella, the Modernista Architecture and La Seu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit the <b>Palau Musica<\/b>, and look at the stained glass skylights. Their web site, http:\/\/www.palaumusica.org\/, like many in Spain hides the URL&#8217;s, but they have <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20121020121814\/http:\/\/wwww.palaumusica.org\/seccion=245&amp;idioma=en_GB.do\">an about themselves page<\/a>. Its a concert hall, but do guided tours during the day. It was started in 1905.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit the <b>MACBA<\/b>, Barcelona&#8217;s contemporary arts centre<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What&#8217;s up with the <b>Picasso<\/b> museums? The rough guide pages 65-66 deal with the Museum, his life and other sites in Barcelona that deal with his life and work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Barri Gothic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We ought to be able to put together a civil war &#8220;Republican Monuments&#8221; walk including the Generalitat and Post Office buildings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parc de la Ciutadella, Barcelona&#8217;s favourite park, allegedly. It includes the city Zoo, which we can miss, the Catlan Parliament building, which doesn&#8217;t permit visitors but also includes the fountain <b>(el Cascada)<\/b>, the <b>Hivernacle<\/b>, a conservatory and bar and <b>Umbracle<\/b>, a palm house. You can see why it&#8217;s popular.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When reading the Rough Guide, 20 years ago, it recommended a visit to Girona, and I took notes which said, it had a beautiful river and impressive cathedral. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Google Maps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1qOux7t-AU55Sp6z3-8eGm-1sZpk&#038;ehbc=2E312F\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When to go?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s warm in the Spring and Autumn, and maybe too hot in the Summer. The Guide suggests that you avoid the winter if you don&#8217;t want any rain.
