This started as Vilnius bit I have become more ambitious. The price is a bit shit. There seem to be two web pages, one very close to Kaunas, <a href=\"https:\/\/lemu.lt\/\">https:\/\/lemu.lt\/<\/a>. Although many people seem to think it&#8217;s important to visit. It can be done by Bus, albeit with a 25 minute walk at the other end.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Done and one regret<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/grutoparkas.lt\/en_US\/\">Gruto parkas<\/a> includes soviet period statues documenting the occupation &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.co.uk\/ShowUserReviews-g277798-d552802-r598545508-Grutas_Park-Druskininkai_Alytus_County.html\">how get there<\/a> from trip advisor again, I missed this for various reasons. The tours are unspeakably priced, it can  be reached by inter-city bus. See below.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I went on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.co.uk\/AttractionProductReview-g274951-d11459948-Tour_to_Ponary_Memorial_Park_The_Hill_of_Angels_Trakai_Castle-Vilnius_Vilnius_Coun.html\">Tour to Ponary Memorial Park, The_Hill_of_Angels &amp; Trakai Castle<\/a> from Vilnius which was awesome.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The 9th Fort in Kaunas, a museum memorising the Holocaust in Lithuania, their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9fortomuziejus.lt\/en\/short-tour-history-of-the-ninth-fort\/\">tour booking page<\/a>, I caught the bus, and paid on the door.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I got to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ambergallery.lt\/en\/museums-2\/mizgiris-amber-museum\/\">http:\/\/www.ambergallery.lt\/en\/museums-2\/mizgiris-amber-museum\/<\/a> in Nida on the spit. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hotels<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.co.uk\/Hotels-g274951-Vilnius_Vilnius_County-Hotels.html\">Hotels in and near Vilnius<\/a> from Trip Advisor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imperialvilnius.lt\/en\/\">Imperial Hotel &amp; Restaurant<\/a> 5* &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/artis.centrumhotels.com\/?lang=en\">Artis Centrum<\/a> 4*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shakespeare.lt\/#\">Boutique Shakespeare<\/a>&nbsp;&amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/hotelvilnia.lt\/\">Vilnia Hotel<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I stayed at <a href=\"https:\/\/rinno.lt\/en\/home\/\">https:\/\/rinno.lt\/en\/home\/<\/a> for three nights and the Imperial for my final night.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AirBnB is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.co.uk\/wishlists\/1633280786\">always an option<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beachfront-hotels.com have a <a href=\"https:\/\/beach-front-hotels.com\/Lithuania-LT\/\">list<\/a> of beach front hotels.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Travel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/davelevy.info\/wiki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/lithuania-LRTL-CC-AdamKillian-BY-2016.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/davelevy.info\/wiki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/lithuania-LRTL-CC-AdamKillian-BY-2016.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12624\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davelevy.info\/wiki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/lithuania-LRTL-CC-AdamKillian-BY-2016.jpg 750w, https:\/\/davelevy.info\/wiki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/lithuania-LRTL-CC-AdamKillian-BY-2016-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting there<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The man in seat 61, has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seat61.com\/Lithuania.htm#London-Vilnius\">journey<\/a>, train and boat, via Kiel! If travelling Eurostar using interail tickets, then one must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurostar.com\/uk-en\/deals\/interrail\">book seats<\/a> on the Eurostar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I was looking for something else, and discovered there&#8217;s at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rome2rio.com\/map\/Copenhagen\/Klaip%C4%97da#r\/Train-car-ferry\">one ferry route from Sweden<\/a>, which of course be travelled to directly or via Denmark<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flying: I checked on Expedia, and getting there in time to do something, is a bit tricky partly because its two hours ahead. Eventually, I chose, Air Baltic to Riga and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.co.uk\/wishlists\/1633280786\">Airbnb<\/a>? There&#8217;s an Air Baltic LGW &#8211; RIX arriving at 9:10 &#8211; 13:50. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is only one train from Riga to Vilnius per day and it runs later in the day. I travelled by bus. Note to self, link to bus company site. Is this, <a href=\"https:\/\/autobusubilietai.lt\/en\">https:\/\/autobusubilietai.lt\/en<\/a> it?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There&#8217;s an airport on the coast, called Palanga. There are direct flights from all London airports, inc City to Vilnius and also flights to Palanga. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting about<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are intercity and city buses, they both do card pay as you go, but the city bus card readers need care and careful use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The trains have a limited network and don&#8217;t run from Kaunus to Klaipeda, I travelled by bus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Green \u20ac on the map represents Eurocar shops, I have been advised to drive, but didn&#8217;t. My driving licence works in Lithuania, no need for an international licence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/driving-abroad\/international-driving-permit\">7<em>\/11\/2022<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Klaipeda<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From Kliapeda to the Spit, see <a href=\"https:\/\/klaipedatravel.lt\/en\/ferries-to-smiltyne\/\">https:\/\/klaipedatravel.lt\/en\/ferries-to-smiltyne\/<\/a> the ferries are regular even in October. This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beatravelling.com\/2023\/11\/28\/how-to-get-around-the-curonian-spit-lithuania\/\">blog post documents<\/a> the buses, it&#8217;s is dated 2023. This might be the best site, <a href=\"https:\/\/autobusubilietai.lt\/en\">https:\/\/autobusubilietai.lt\/en<\/a> which I was pointed at by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/lithuania\/comments\/1238rkd\/visiting_lithuania_how_to_get_from_klaipeda_to\/\">this reddit thread<\/a>.
