There is a big furore over the Labour campaign where the Tories and those close to Labour&#8217;s Leadership claiming that the Mayor&#8217;s ULEZ scheme lost it for Labour. Labour&#8217;s candidate had called for a suspension of its introduction and post election, Starmer also called for a re-think. I <a href=\"https:\/\/labourhub.org.uk\/2023\/07\/22\/once-more-on-uxbridge\/\">posted what I think<\/a> on Labour Hub, which includes a poor understanding of what policy promises were required, which includes reassurance on climate change, public services investment and pay. Here are my notes and links &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Links<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opendemocracy.net\/en\/uxbridge-south-ruislip-ulez-expansion-sadiq-khan-conservative-labour\/\">https:\/\/www.opendemocracy.net\/en\/uxbridge-south-ruislip-ulez-expansion-sadiq-khan-conservative-labour\/<\/a> which talks of Johnson&#8217;s announcement of ULEZ, but not the Government&#8217;s extortion in getting Khan to extend it and the timing of the extensions. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SkyNews\/status\/1682363979321024515?s=20\">Khan defends the policy<\/a> and notes that all other cities in the UK get government subsidy for the scrappage. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s almost as if the Tories have trapped Kahn with a booby trap designed to go off in the re-election year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/7156d20a-27d0-11ee-b92f-f3b1bf190fd2?shareToken=76f2c777410f5b91389f374b6779f30c\">Sadiq Khan must \u2018reflect\u2019 on Ulez, Starmer says after Uxbridge loss<\/a>, a litany of attacks by anonymous Labour sources on ULEZ in the Times (\u00a3)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/threadreaderapp.com\/thread\/1682402956786671617.html\">A twitter thread by Tanja Bueltmann<\/a> , famously a German in Scotland, who argues that triangulating with the far right legitimises them and quotes the AfD&#8217;s rise in Germany.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/morningstaronline.co.uk\/article\/b\/labour-urged-pursue-positive-policies-tories-cling-boris-johnsons-old-seat\">https:\/\/morningstaronline.co.uk\/article\/b\/labour-urged-pursue-positive-policies-tories-cling-boris-johnsons-old-seat<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A Labour comrade from Birmingham writes, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I was part of a team that did this with the clean air zone in Birmingham. We faced all the same attacks from the Tories before it was brought in. It was in before the election and wasn\u2019t a significant issue for us. If you are doing the right thing to improve air quality and improve people\u2019s healthy lives, then do it. Delaying it means more people get ill and doesn\u2019t even solve the political problem because the opposition will always say that you are&nbsp;going&nbsp;to&nbsp;do&nbsp;it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Another issue about which people are more silent is the continuing evidence that many Indians are now voting Tory; one reason for this is their support for the Modi regime in India, <a href=\"https:\/\/labourlist.org\/2022\/12\/workers-in-india-need-solidarity\/\">criticised <\/a>in Labour List. Check out the Mayor&#8217;s site, the font is very large, &#8220;<strong>Landmark High Court win for Mayor means ULEZ expansion will go ahead<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Equally interesting, <a href=\"https:\/\/valent-projects.com\/\">Valent Projects<\/a>, did some <a href=\"https:\/\/threadreaderapp.com\/thread\/1684591764160536578.html\">research on the twitter foot print<\/a> of the anti-ULEZ campaign (or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/valent_projects\/status\/1684591764160536578\">on twitter<\/a>) and discovered that much of it was programmatic.
