This was originally written in 2015, when my works trip returned to Chamonix. Yup, we’re going back to Chamonix, probably staying here., obviously going up in the world; it’s next door to the one we used in 2011. In 2025, I had a look to go under my own steam, to see the snow and sun.

Here is the Chamonix tourist web page which ideas of things to do. Think I’ll go up the train, and the cable car, on separate days. Tripadvisor, things to do.

2026

Expedia have some reasonably priced hotels in Feb 2026, although they all want deposits at the moment.

Rome 2 Rio suggests

  1. Fly to Geneva and then catch a bus, by Swiss Tours, 1:35, every three hours or or this page suggest taxi prices, “On average, a shared shuttle ride from Geneva Airport costs between €30 and €40 per person. For a private transfer, prices generally start around €150, offering …”
  2. Train to Paris and Bus to Chamonix, although it’s probably possible to use the train more, but this takes 9 hours and will often pass through Geneva. The train is not much cheaper and a 3 hour longer journey. It’s price is highly dependent on the Eurostar price. (Think I’ll fly.)

A weather forecast for Feb 26.

And their ski lift map.

Is this a good idea?

I no longer have any ski wear, and if I fall over, I won’t be able to get up. So no skiing! 🎿No drag lifts and chair lifts might be a problem.
