Various things have brought me to reconsider, alternatives to Bitcoin’s proof of work and this points me at rchain.coop, because I know it. They are implementing a proof of stake based blockchain with a co-op based governance structure. Here are my notes … Read More
This took a lot of time, I wanted to reduce the occurrence of my BSOD “UNEXPECTED STORE EXCEPTION“. This involved reinstalling my anti-virus product, changing it’s passwords and then repairing my fingerprint reader driver as a result of a Code 19 error on my fingerprint reader. I then worked through the steps suggested here. This led me to suspect the hard disk (SSD) and finally to reset the operating system. I had been postponing the last item as previous experience had been terrible. (Once I got to the right version of the reset program), it was easier than I expected. I document the reinstallation of packages here. Otherwise here are my notes. Read More
I find it hard to believe, but I have not yet posted my soundtrack of the Internationale which I use as a ring tone to this wiki. Well, here it is!
For more see also ringtones and revolution, which talks about the film and Finland Station and explains the featured image.
I came back to open source auction software again, it’s really important and seems to have been enclosed, particularly around SaaS services or by the Investment Banks and Financial Exchanges. Not aimed at the largest scale, but here are some notes … Read More
I am conducting a project about Monet’s Four Trees and came across a digital version of the painting at Wikipedia. What fascinated me is that they claim the digital image is public domain. Read More
The 4 trees is one of Claude Monet‘s famous paintings. I need to do a project on it but I also found some useful comments on copyright on the wikipedia page hosting the image.

I am curious if this is because he did a bunch or because digitising colour is very technology dependant. I was also unaware that Impressionism was named after this picture called Impression Sunrise. This too appears in many images on the internet, each with slightly differing colours.
Impression Sunrise : Claude Monet (PD)
This is now displayed at the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, while Four Tress is in the Met in NYC.
A personal fascination became apparent when I discovered under US Law and the Berne treaties, a faithful photograph of two dimensional pictures do not create a new copyright and thus all the photos of Monet’s art are Public Domain since he died in 1926 and the copyright expired in 2006. …
It promised a social network where writers were paid for content, it wasn’t to be. Was its failure baked into its conception, or did it do what its creators wanted? Here are my notes … Read More
I have been doing some reading recently on what I considered pre-capitalist history much of which I tried to put in a class struggle context, basically about the coming of the bourgeoisie.
