I had another go at a city builder game. I have stopped playing Rise of Empires, here are my notes and links for Forge of Empires. …

Notes

The constraint on growth varies depending on the period and what one develops. In the earlier ages, I found myself short of time, and then land, and later supplies. I am trying to spend as little [real cash] as possible but free land is very slow to acquire. As one progresses in time, supplies become easier, the constraint becomes land.

Should one use Rogues? These are combat troops, and I exclusively play with “autobattle”. The wiki advice is that they are valuable in the early game, but begin to become ineffective at around the modern/post modern eras.

I am frustrated with the colony side games, which the wiki calls, Cultural Settlements. Completing them takes diamonds i.e. £££ and there is a time trigger, which means that not only does one have to fund development with diamonds, but also acquire land using diamonds or slow the main city development. I seem unable to trigger any settlements other than the Vikings. It seems that finishing the colony within time earns you Ambassadors, who increase the production power of the Town Hall. (There’s more to know here, but that’s it for today).
