The EU is preparing its next medium term budget. This is an act of legislation but they have convened a European citizens panel https://citizens.ec.europa.eu/index_en on the topic; its rercommendations are documented here. No matter the cynicism and valid criticisms aimed at these panels, this must be a good thing. The process continues and this page documents the current state of progress – 27 May 2025
The launch is of the process is announced https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_25_486 Feb 12
The budget committee reports 23 Apr; they say, “In the report adopted on Wednesday by 23 votes in favour, 9 against and with 2 abstentions, MEPs emphasise the need for a significantly more ambitious long-term EU budget (multiannual financial framework – MFF) that can deliver on EU citizens’ rising expectations against a rapidly changing global backdrop.” I say, they want more money, but the amount they manage is trivial compared with GDP.
