Mexico has a sad and long history, having finished Class Wargames, I am looking to pick up, “Mexico, a brief history”. Here are my other notes & links …
Links

- https://www.amnesty.org/en/countries/americas/mexico/report-mexico/
- FCO travel advice Mexico, safety and security

And some more,
- Mexico solidarity project, wonder if they organise trips, not sure but have pointed at cooxmayab.com who are a union of cooperatives committed to the practice of responsible, solidarity-based, fair and conscious tourism in the Yucatan.
- Activities in Mexico City, Central Mexico and its Gulf Coast from trip advisor
- Conde Naste on Mexico City’s museums, and Time Out on things to do and see.
- Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve

To get around, it seems that you have to use buses/coaches, there is only one passenger train service. According to Wikipedia, there are projects in the pipeline and also museums.
Kitti, who comments on the buses above, recommends,
- Fly in a hot air balloon over one of the most spectacular places in Mexico, the Teotihuacán Valley
- Experience this history first hand with a full-day tour to Chichen Itza, Cenote and Valladolid from Cancun or the Riviera Maya
- Ideal for travellers looking for a full day of outdoor adventure, this tour combines an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) off-road session with ziplining, swimming, and tequila tasting
- Talking of Tequilla tasting, there’s the Jose Cuervo express, in this case from Trip Advisor
- Buy your tickets to the Frida Kahlo Museum in advance and explore a collection of personal items, sketches, paintings, and furniture that reflect Kahlo’s life and work, although, I prefer the work of her husband, Diego Riviera, whose masterpiece, the History of Mexico is at the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City. - Escape for the day to Xcaret, Mexico’s ecological and archeology park located in Riviera Maya

Exottica
These people have a tour, its a bit steep and they ask for a very high deposit. I shan’t be doing it in 2025 and it might be best to wait ’till nearer the time as the price drops.
Railways
it seems they’re not as shit as I’d read. Here is a link, Mapa Ferroviario Mexico and an image made by me.

And of course my map
Comments on the Jose Cuervo express and Co’ox Mayab added today.
