My planned defence piece led me to look up the British Army’s Helicopters; I think there is a joint helicopter command now, but otherwise here are my notes. Updated in 2024 …
What the Army says about its helicopters in 2024, although it seems that the UK still has Chinook’s available, and what the Army said about their ‘copters, and how many does the MOD have?
The Chinook is not obsolete. and the anglo-french Airbus helicopter is used in some arms of the military.
When looking at the ?James Meek’s review of books on the Afghanistan War, Helicopters were the most significant missing equipment, although it looks like not because we didn’t have enough. The Army had 8 in Helmand.
I updated the MOD link today, Apache’s for ground attack, Wildcat for transport and recce, and the Juno for pilot training.
I added some more recent links.
