Finance
To be done, the financial position and its treatment is complex this year. however, Ester’s analysis can be summarised as follows
In 2025 the Labour Party reported a deficit of £2.56m compared with a deficit of £3.76m in 2024.
Crucially, net assets are at their lowest level since 2013, and the Party has supplemented its cashflow with asset sales. Notably, the Party has changed the presentation of the Pension asset/liability, shifting a pension surplus to current assets.
The auditors gave the Party a clean bill of financial health and agreed with its going concern assumption.
I wrote a blog post on the membership numbers which were down at the end of the year.
I quoted the report, “As at 31 December 2025 the total individual membership of the Party was 264,754 (2024: 333,235).” That’s a 21% decline on the year and over 50% from when Starmer took over.
