Sep 2026, UNSC special session

During the week commencing 20th Sept 2026, the United Nations Security Council held a session on the regulating of AI. The press coverage highlights the interviewing of three CEOs of the AI companies, but others were asked to give evidence including Yoshua Bengi, who a prominent advisor and co-chair for key United Nations initiatives regarding artificial intelligence governance and safety.

I asked google Gemini about the session, together with some follow up questions on who the non-commercial presenters/evidence givers were, and what were the position was of the UN committees and scientists.

Legislating AI: A Comparison between the EU and the UK, by Cambridge Management Consulting, they say, The primary difference between the EU and UK’s respective approaches to AI regulation is that, where the former framework requires the introduction of a new European Agency, National Authorities, and numerous registration/compliance processes in order to operate, the latter is much more flexible. The UK Act works by asking existing regulatory bodies to interpret and adapt its regulations into their sectors.
