P2P DNS

Looking at DNS and the attempt to P2P it.

Peter Sunde launched a project, reported at Computer World in an article called “P2P DNS to take on ICANN after US domain seizures”

It seems to have got stuck. This article dated 18 Oct 2011 and called Continuing the Distributed DNS System on Slashdot has some pointers. See also P2P-DNS taking control of the Internet  at memeburn.com.

The nearest successor seems to be namecoin, see http://namecoin.info/ , https://bit.namecoin.org & its wikipedia page

While researching this in 2013 I came across a page on alternate roots at Wikipedia.

In 2020, I had another look, and came across https://www.namecoin.org/, here’s a query on Bruce Schneier’s site. Other’s imply that the only answer is to move to broadcast protocols, why not? It’s what ethernet is/was.

Twitter API V1.1 (Deprecated)

This post was written in 2013 and I discovered in May 2018 that most of the links failed. It’s been a while, and it surprises me that my little wiki has lasted longer than the resources I point to, but not here. I could have deleted this post, but chose not to; I have heavily edited it so it’s as much a diary as the technical note it once was.

Berlin

Berlin

I originally wrote this for me, and used it to record stuff I need to plan and visit the city.  It’s still pretty much the same. It might be useful for others. I first stayed there at the end of the summer 2005. We stayed at the art’otel mitte im Mitte and visited the centre of Berlin with a quick trip to the Story of Berlin on the Ku’f’dam, which is worth revisiting. I posted my pictures to a  Berlin set in flickr which is now displayed as a slide show below/overleaf. I returned on business in 2007 and for a city-break in Jan 2019, again in March 2019 and again in Apr 2022.

Sharing my Reading List

I used to use books.livingsocial.com but they’ve gone away.

I revisited this page in January 2014, and added that WordPress have at least one plugin, here is one called Currently Reading Book and this link, How to get an RSS feed out of an Amazon wish list, does what it says which may help on reading next.

When ever I first wrote this, I considered writing my own.

ooOOOoo

What to do next? Google Books offer a reading list it would seem, and Amazon of course offer a wish list, they offered a Reading List via Linkedin but this seems to have gone.

Goodreads claims to offer one, http://www.goodreads.com/ but I am getting leery about these social networks. http://booksreadinglist.com/ seems optimised for facebook.

Think I might build one myself. I have moved some of the requirements to a comment.
